The Torotoro National Park is the smallest in Bolivia, but it is one of the most attractive to go back millions of years in time when dinosaurs ruled the earth. It is located at the north of the department of Potos but the only access is from the city of Cochabamba by a 140 km gravel road, it takes around 4 hours. The altitude range is between 3,600 and 1,900 meters above sea level.

Torotoro is a paradise for geology and paleontology lovers, deep caverns and canyons, waterfalls, thousands of dinosaur footprints and areas with abundant fossils and cave paintings are just the beginning since there are beautiful geological formations that can be reached by short treks.

The Park has more than 60 caves which only two can be visited by tourists, the most visited is the Cavern of Umajalanta located 5 miles west of the town and is one of the largest cave systems in Bolivia, the entrance to Umajalanta is more than 300 yards long. The expedition inside the cavern is made in absolute silence and darkness through different sizes of stalactites and stalagmites, flashlights are essential. There are small lagoons inside the Cavern which are home of the Blind Fish (Trichomycterus chaberti).

In Torotoro there are more than 1000 species of plants registered as well as a diversity of fauna, including the Andean deer (Hippocamelus antisensis), Andean cat (Leopardus jacobita), the endemic red-fronted macaw (Ara rubrogenys) and a endemic tordo.

Another beautiful attractions of Torotoro are El Vergel waterfall, located inside the Torotoro canyon and it can be reached by foot through rocky formations, also a majestic mountain of sedimentary rock called La Ciudad de Itas, at almost 4000 m.a.s.l., where you are lead through long stretches of stone mazes, and in these mazes are areas of eroded stone on the walls of which are painted murals.

Torotoro is also known as the Jurassic Park of Bolivia, one of the reasons is that in is home of one of the highest number of dinosaur footprints in Bolivia, dinosaur tracks are from biped and quadruped dinosaurs from the Cretaceus period (80-100 million years ago), during the Mesozoic era, also called the Era of the Dinosaurs, time when they ruled the Earth.

The village has a small population and a few hostels to receive tourists from all over the world, the town square was recently reconstructed, now it remembers to universal studios with a big T-Rex in the center.
